Mike & Kara

Mike and Kara are the owners of ThiccBoi Springfield, located in Republic, Missouri. Serving fitness communities throughout the Midwest and Southwest, they became franchise owners in early 2025 and proudly built Springfield into ThiccBoi’s first full-time franchise. They were initially drawn to ThiccBoi because of its bold designs and high-quality apparel, but it was the heart behind the brand that inspired them to take the leap. Seeing founder Mark live out the motto “Work Hard. Be Kind.” showed them that ThiccBoi was about more than clothing. It was about community, generosity, hard work, and making people feel like they matter. Before ThiccBoi, Kara built her career in finance, while Mike spent more than 23 years in the stainless fabrication industry, eventually managing a quality control department. Both have been involved in the CrossFit community for years as athletes, and Mike has also served as a CrossFit and nutrition coach for more than five years. What began as an opportunity for Mike to coach full time quickly became a shared passion. In less than a year, they turned ThiccBoi Springfield from a part-time venture into their full-time business. Today, Mike handles printing, event scheduling, booth setup, and relationships with athletes and event organizers. Kara manages the finances and serves as the steady voice of reason who keeps the team moving in the right direction. Together, they travel to events, work the booth, and create an experience that reflects who they are. Their booths are designed to feel like a real apparel store, complete with lights, music, energy, and plenty of fun. More importantly, they want each booth to be a place where people feel welcome, want to hang out, and leave feeling special. They know people may not always remember the shirt they purchased, but they will remember how they were treated. While CrossFit remains at the heart of their community, ThiccBoi Springfield also serves HYROX, strongman, powerlifting, and weightlifting events. They assist ThiccBoi HQ with custom apparel printing for competitions, gyms, businesses and franchise apparel. They are willing to travel anywhere for the right opportunity to support athletes, organizers, and communities. Faith, family, and fun guide everything Mike and Kara do. Their faith calls them to love and serve others, while “Work Hard. Be Kind.” shapes the way they approach business and everyday life. Whether training, working, volunteering, or setting up an event, they strive to be the hardest-working people in the room while making sure those around them know they matter. The greatest reward of their journey has been the relationships they have built. What began as a franchise has introduced them to incredible people and created friendships that feel like family, both within the fitness community and throughout the ThiccBoi team. As ThiccBoi enters its next chapter, Mike is preparing to transition into the CEO role, where he hopes to help the team and its franchises grow while developing people and helping them reach their full potential. Mike and Kara also plan to eventually take over as the HQ franchise and relocate their operation to the Phoenix, Arizona, area. Outside of ThiccBoi, they enjoy training together, traveling, spending time with their three boys, and hanging out with Kilo, the newest ThiccBoi mascot. Their story is proof that if they can take a chance, build something meaningful, and turn a passion into a full-time business, anyone can. Above all, Mike and Kara want people to know they genuinely care about making ThiccBoi and the communities it serves stronger.
